I was pleasantly surprised that needling did have some recovery time. Before I looked amazing, there was a day when I didn’t look so great, but I only needed to stay in for one day. She had me prepared for a slightly longer downtime, but it was well-organized. She also addresses concerns about photo sensitivity and guides me through what to expect during the experience.

“Well, one of the greatest aspects of meeting with Jennifer for a service is that it feels like chatting with an old friend or a girlfriend. She’s down-to-earth and warm. “Well, this is a bit of a tangent, but she hosted a Galentine’s Day party at the office. Did you all know about that? So, I got to meet a whole new group of women, and it turned out to be a very supportive community. Interestingly, I found out that I had friends in common with some of these ladies. It created an incredibly supportive female community, which isn’t always easy to come by.

Ironically, one of the most supportive female community groups in the city was Barre Method in my neighborhood. It’s closed now, and we all really miss it. It was a place where women, whether going through pregnancy, the prenatal and postnatal stages, or of all ages, came together to build a strong community. Some of those women were actually at the Galentine’s Day event.

As I mentioned, the connections reached far and wide. A friend of mine who’s a realtor in Honor is also connected to that group. So, creating a positive female community experience was something I wouldn’t have initially expected.”

“So, when it comes to self-care, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the multitude of products flooding our way, especially on platforms like Instagram. However, she simplifies things by identifying quality products. It’s as straightforward as using vitamin C in the morning, followed by a retinol-based product in the evening, a high-quality sunscreen, and a good moisturizer. Instead of constantly searching for the beauty Holy Grail, she emphasizes the simplicity and fundamentals. She doesn’t try to sell you anything; she just offers valuable guidance.

Navigating skincare can be quite the challenge for teenagers these days, given the barrage of TikTok videos and product campaigns. She keeps it simple and practical, which is a great value. Despite initial concerns about the cost of the vitamin C product, she provided precise instructions, and it turned out to be the best value I’ve ever had, lasting longer than expected.

In summary, it’s all about value, sanity, and practical instructions that define her approach.”

“So, at the current clinic I’ve had filler, dysport, needling, and IPL.”

“This is hilarious. When I realized that my skin was luminous, it really lifted me up. Then a man whose opinion I care about told me that my skin was glowing, which was a reinforcement. But this is actually funny. I was in North Beach on Grant Alley Street and ran into someone I haven’t seen in 22 years. She’s in great shape, a little bit older than I am. We used to work out together. She’s had plenty of work done, and she hollers across the street, “Betsy, have you had a facelift?” Of course, I haven’t had any surgical procedures, and I thought to myself, “Oh my goodness, this works.”

I mean, you talk about it, and she hollered it for the world to hear. It was quite funny. That’s just an anecdote, but it’s very hard to know what we look like in the mirror, and we’re all hypercritical of photos. So, to have someone respond like that was pretty uplifting.”

“Jennifer was at another Med Spa at 450 Center for quite a while. There was a pioneering doctor there who actually might have been the first to do laser hair removal in the city and also IPL treatments. That’s where I first met her. I didn’t see her exclusively, but I saw her a lot for laser hair removal. She also did filler injections, and I had facials and various other services.

Then, when she moved, I had a ton of respect for her, and I wanted to follow her.”

“Well, I tried the IPL, and it’s almost too good to be true. I wasn’t expecting it to be so powerful, but almost immediately, my skin was luminous. What really drove it home for me is that I referred my next-door neighbor, and she got the IPL too. I looked at her skin and saw that same luminous, glowing quality, and I’m thinking, “Oh my God, I look like that too.”

She got the new super-duper FDA-approved needling device, and it was just amazing. I had plenty of needling before, and it was always positive, but this was more intense and delivered really great results, especially around my lips and jawline.

So, those two things stand out the most from the IPLs and one needling session that I’ve probably had of any procedure or service I’ve ever had on my face. I thought I would see an improvement, but it’s significant. I don’t know how long it’s been; we can ask Jenn, of course, but I actually had a scar by my lip go away. It didn’t happen until this month, and it just started diminishing. So, long-term effects? Yeah, it’s the real deal.”

“Yeah, a few things come to mind here. I believe aesthetics, employing the ethics of care, and using empirical evidence are crucial principles when applying them to patient care and medicine. Empirical evidence stands out as a monumental philosophical principle in this context.

In medicine, we rely on evidence-based practice to enhance our critical thinking and decision-making from a medical standpoint. This philosophy aligns perfectly with what I do as a PA, especially in this type of practice. Aesthetics play a significant role, as the perception of beauty varies across cultures, and it can be subjective.

Our approach involves understanding our patients’ desires for their surgery and their aesthetic and cosmetic results. This approach is closely tied to the philosophical principle I mentioned earlier. Each patient may have different preferences for their desired aesthetic, and our goal is to blend these preferences with each specific patient encounter to achieve the results they seek. This is the essence of our daily work here.”

“Dr. Deschamps-Braly is incredibly approachable. He appreciates my medical opinions and knowledge on certain things. He even asks me questions at times. Our collaboration is truly with a capital “C.” I love that aspect of working here, something I felt was lacking in my previous roles.

In my previous positions, it often felt like providers believed their opinions were the only right ones, and there was a lack of collaboration. However, in my current job, I can approach my surgeon and attending physician with questions. I can even suggest things in the operating room, and they listen and take my input respectfully. This collaborative and professional interprofessional communication is truly unique. I feel fortunate to have this sense of collaboration with him and wouldn’t want it any other way at this point in my career.”
