Botox® is a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. The substance is injected into the face to alleviate signs of stress and aging such as facial wrinkles and frown lines. Botox® was originally used as a treatment for patients with eye-lid spasms. Doctors found that the wrinkles around the eye also improved, and Botox® went on to have many uses for treatment in the face in the aesthetic medicine industry.
Botox® is very safe in that the substance doesn’t directly affect nerves or muscles. Instead, it works by blocking the nerve impulses from the brain, relaxing muscle activity. Worry lines and wrinkles smooth and soften, giving the face a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance. Both substances are ideal for treating lips, forehead, around eyes, chin and the large chewing muscles (masseter muscle). But they also have more therapeutic uses such as improvement of headaches in patients with a discreet trigger point, or Bruxism (grinding of the jaws).
The effects of Botox® usually last 4 to 6 months, but following several treatments, there may be an accumulative effect in some people with results lasting much longer, up to 8 to 10 months in some cases.
The wait is over! Dr. Deschamps-Braly’s new book “Facial Feminization Surgery: The Journey to Gender Affirmation” is back and available now. This second edition covers the advances in facial feminization as well as helpful patient stories and is a great resource for FFS patients and their loved ones.LEARN MORE
Careful and precise placement of Botox® is the key to enhancing your own natural beauty and creating beautiful results. The skill of injecting is that of a medical professional and also that of an artist who is sensitive to the existing aesthetic of your face. We understand your need for discretion and that you may not want anyone to notice that you’ve “had Botox done” and instead want to look rejuvenated and refreshed.
Botox® is an effective treatment for excessive sweating in the underarms and palms (hyperhidrosis). It works by blocking the action of the nerves that supply the sweat glands and stopping the glands that produce sweat. This treatment is especially recommended for those people who’ve tried everything but can’t get relief even with strong antiperspirants or medication. Not only does the substance alleviate the actual sweat but also reduces body odor (bromhydrosis). The effects will last several months but some patients are free of excessive sweating for more than 7 months to a year.
Botox® is a safe, therapeutic treatments for migraines – severe headaches that often disable the sufferer for days at a time. To reduce the pain and duration of migraines the product is injected into specific sites around the eyes and forehead.
The injections are performed by Jennifer Fick, FNP-C, CANS, a Board Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist. You can read more about Jennifer here, or on her own website. Dr. Deschamps-Braly is on hand to consult in more complex cases if necessary.
