Post-Op Maintenance

At the Deschamps-Braly Clinic, we are committed to providing the highest level of patient care throughout every stage of your surgical journey. Our support does not end in the operating room—our team is here to ensure your healing process is safe, comfortable, and well-coordinated.

The First Hours and Days After Surgery

Immediately following your procedure, patients typically spend the first night in the hospital, where Dr. Deschamps-Braly checks in personally to monitor your comfort and safety. Our team will assess your initial healing and address any concerns to help you feel as supported as possible. The first 48 hours are a critical time, and you can expect regular check-ins from our clinical team, both in person and via your care coordinator. We are always available to answer questions and provide guidance should you need anything as you begin the recovery process.

Staying in San Francisco for Recovery

For traveling patients, we recommend remaining in San Francisco for approximately two weeks after your procedure to ensure you have access to all necessary follow-up appointments and attentive care. Our concierge team is happy to assist with lodging and transportation arrangements and offers recommendations for dining and activities close to our clinic. We want your recovery experience to be as seamless and stress-free as possible.

Post-Operative Instructions and Guidelines

During your pre-surgery appointment, our staff will review helpful medications and post-operative supplies that will support your return to health. We’ll provide a detailed list and instructions on wound care, managing swelling, using prescribed pain medications, and reducing infection risk. For certain procedures, you may be advised to temporarily discontinue activities like facial hair removal, vigorous exercise, and heavy lifting, typically for at least two to four weeks post-surgery, or until you are cleared by Dr. Deschamps-Braly.

  • Sleep with your head elevated for several days to minimize swelling and discomfort.
  • Use cold compresses as directed to help control swelling during the first few days.
  • Eat soft or liquid foods, and avoid spicy, hot, or cold items as recommended for jaw or facial surgery.
  • Follow all directions on antibiotics and antibacterial mouthwash if prescribed to support healing and prevent infection.
  • Plan to wear bandages or compression garments if directed, and attend all scheduled post-op appointments at our clinic.
  • Avoid excess sun exposure and strenuous activities until cleared for regular movement by your surgical team.

Long-Term Healing and Activity

Recovery times vary depending on the type of surgery and each patient’s unique needs. Some patients may be ready to return to work or public activities within two to three weeks, while full results and healing from certain procedures may take several months. Patients should allow themselves time for complete recovery, and our team will provide ongoing follow-ups and guidance throughout this period.

Your safety and satisfaction are our priority. If you ever have concerns or questions during your recovery, please reach out to our office. We are invested in your outcome and available to support you at every step—from consultation to complete healing.
