Things To Do Explore, Relax, and Recover in Our City

DiDi’s Picks

We understand you will be recovering from surgery. In the event you come early, extend your stay, or are feeling well enough to explore our fine City, our Director of Hospitality, DiDi Bui has compiled this list of special places for you to visit. Some are common and some are little things we locals do to enjoy a day.

01

The Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of California’s icons, adorning San Francisco Bay. It is the most photographed site of the city, with its orange color contrasting the blue color of the water and its two towers sometimes piercing the low clouds. You can jog or bike across it too. If you are afraid of the height, you can get a fantastic view of the bridge from Baker beach.

02

Land’s End

The end of the land, quite simply. You can not go further, and San Francisco had the great idea to build a beautiful  park in this finistere. There is a path from Lands End to the Golden Gate but it will require some time (especially if you like to take pictures along the way). On your way there, visit the Sutro Baths ruins. It used to be a huge complex of 7 pools fed by the Pacific Ocean and could accommodate up to 10,000 bathers at a time.

The ruins of the Sutro baths offer a magnificent setting for a photo session or simply for a stroll off the track.

03

16th Ave. Tiled Steps

Located at the corner of 16th Avenue and Moraga Street, this old staircase dating from 1926 was completely restored by a ceramist (Aileen Barr), a mosaic artist (Colette Crutcher) and more than 300 volunteer residents. The 163 steps represent nature; the moon, sun, marine life,  birds,  flora etc. At night, the fluorescent tiles shine into magical stairs.

04

Honorable Mentions

  • Visit Alcatraz Island
  • See a show at the palace of fine arts theatre
  • Visit a Museum, such as the Exploratorium or California Academy of Sciences
