A PIONEER IN FACIAL FEMINIZATION SURGERY (FFS)

Dr. Ousterhout formed an association with Dr. Deschamps-Braly to continue his longstanding and innovative surgical practice in Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS).

Dr. Deschamps-Braly is the only surgeon that Dr. O has trained in the art and practice of FFS and is carrying on his San Francisco-based practice.

BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS

Douglas K. Ousterhout, M.D., D.D.S is a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he received his dental and medical degrees. While there, he was inducted into several honor societies: Dental Academic, Medical Historical and Medical Academic Honor Fraternities.

After serving as a Captain in the U.S Army Medical Corps, he then completed his residency in plastic surgery at Stanford University Medical Center, where he held the position of Chief Resident from 1971 to1972.

Following his training at Stanford he trained with Dr Paul Tessier, the father of craniofacial surgery, in Paris, France. Upon returning to San Francisco, he was involved in starting the Center for Craniofacial Anomalies at the University of California, San Francisco, Medical and Dental Centers.

Dr. Ousterhout is a full Professor of Surgery (Plastic) in the School of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Dentistry, Dental School, UCSF.

Dr. Ousterhout was certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1974 and has been in the practice of plastic surgery in San Francisco since July 1973.

He has membership with fourteen different medical societies including:

He is also an honorary member of the Japanese Society of Craniofacial Surgery.

Dr. Ousterhout has served on the boards of several plastic surgery societies. He served as President of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons from 1994 to 1995 and as President of the Pan-Pacific Surgical Association from 1998 to 2000.

He also served on the Editorial Board of four different plastic surgery journals and is on the Advisory Committee for “Recommended Guidelines for Transgender Care,” AEGIS.

In addition to editing existing journals, Dr. Ousterhout co-founded Worldplast and the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery.

Rounding out his contributions in the medical community, Dr. Ousterhout began a grant in 2002 with the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons for the extended training of two craniofacial graduates a year.

Presently, Dr. Ousterhout holds staff membership at California Pacific Medical Center, Davies Campus, and is a full Clinical Professor at UCSF.

Dr. Ousterhout served for the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons as Visiting Professor for many universities, including Rutger’s, Ohio State and the University of Kansas. Over the years he has been Visiting Professor at multiple universities including Baylor University, UCLA, Oregon Health and Sciences, University of Michigan, amongst others.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ousterhout has presented scores of major scientific papers, both nationally and internationally and has over a hundred scientific publications.

His medical textbooks, “Aesthetic Contouring of the Craniofacial Skeleton”, was published in 1991 and “Facial Feminization Surgery” in 2009.
