Breast augmentation is the most popular breast surgery in the world. The procedure works to increase the size, fullness, and projection of your breasts. It may also be used to improve breast symmetry (uneven breasts), the balance between the size of your breasts vs. your hips, and lift the nipples or improve breast shape. The breasts are typically augmented using implants made of silicone or saline (a saltwater solution), or fat grafting with fat taken from your own body.
Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
A breast lift changes the shape and projection of the breasts rather than their size. Although this procedure is simply about lifting the breasts, it may also be included in an augmentation or breast reduction to improve the appearance of the breasts. A breast lift is ideal for women who have given birth, breastfed, lost a significant amount of weight, and/or developed drooping breasts (ptosis).
As one of the breast surgeries with the highest rate of patient satisfaction, breast reduction is a common procedure that can dramatically improve your quality of life if you have overly large or heavy breasts. Breast reduction can relieve symptoms such as breast pain, neck, shoulder and back pain, poor posture, under-breast rashes, and difficulty with sports and exercise.
Breast Implant Revision Surgery
If you have had breast augmentation surgery in the past, you may notice that over time, as your body naturally ages, the breasts and skin may change and the look and feel of your breast implants can also change. This is quite common and to be expected if your breast implants are more than 10–15 years old. There are many reasons women will seek to have breast implants from a previous breast augmentation replaced with newer implants including the fact that breast implant manufacturing technology improves continually.
Breast Cancer Reconstruction Surgery (After Mastectomy)
Breast cancer is a traumatic and incredibly stressful time in any woman’s life. Her sense of identity, self-esteem, and femininity is often tied to how she feels about her breasts. Treatment for breast cancer often requires partial or complete breast removal, creating a defect or deformity leading many women to seek breast reconstruction to improve the appearance of their breasts.
Cosmetic Nipple Surgery
Both men and women who are not happy with the appearance of their nipples and/or areolas (the darker skin around the nipple) can benefit from cosmetic nipple surgery. This procedure may be performed on its own, but is more commonly used in conjunction with other breast procedures such as breast lift, breast reduction, mommy makeover, and surgery for enlarged male breasts (gynecomastia).
Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Surgery)
Gynecomastia (enlargement of breast tissue in men) is a very common condition affecting up to 50 percent of males. Breast enlargement can range from slightly raised or puffy nipples, all the way through to large feminine-looking breasts. Gynecomastia can create social embarrassment impacting self-esteem and confidence. Male breast reduction aims to remove any excess tissue to create a chest that is flatter and more masculine in appearance.
